Landscape Staples – An Introduction

Landscape staple (also known as Garden Stakes, Sod Staples, Fence Staples, Sod Depot, Landscape Fabric Pins, Landscape Fabric Staples, Landscape Stakes, Steel Stakes, Lawn Staples, Anchor Pins, Sod Pins, and Ground Staples) is a piece of steel, bent in a shape that can affix a variety of items to the ground. It is a more clean method to achieve garden landscaping without the use of heavy rocks for fixing lawn items to the ground. Most of these come with sharp edges that make them easy to penetrate into soil and landscape fabric.

Usage of Landscaping Staples

SOD staples can be used in a wide variety of applications to affix various items (Check our DIY Projects). These include (but are not limited to):

  • Landscape fabric
  • Pet fences
  • Garden decorative items
  • Drip irrigation pipes
  • Artificial Turf
  • Bird netting
  • Chicken wire
  • Plastic items
  • Chain link
  • Edging

Galvanized vs Non-Galvanized SOD Staples

Garden staples have two specific types.

  • Galvanized – These have been treated chemically using Zinc coated liquid or electrically to avoid rusting. These are anti-rust and spend a long time after being buried in the ground.
  • Non-Galvanized – These SOD staples are created from raw material and are subject to rust after some time of usage. Their behavior to get rusted makes them stay firm in the soil due to the shape change after some time.

Benefits of Garden Landscape Staples

Some of the benefits of using landscaping staples include:

  • Keeps landscape fabric fixed to the ground
  • Avoids using heavy rocks to fix items to the ground
  • Can be used to anchor tents
  • Can be used to fix net wires on hilly areas to avoid land sliding
  • Control erosion on slopes by installing landscape fabric
